Numbers and Averages up for Gold Creek Simmental in 2020

Due to the COVID-19 Alert Level 4 lock down, Gold Creek’s planned inaugural on-farm auction was unable to go ahead last month, however, the quality of the bulls in this year’s catalogue spoke for themselves, thus securing a successful result for the Simmental Stud via Private Treaty sales.

21 of a catalogued 23 bulls sold, for an average of $7285 – an improvement on last year in both figures. In 2019, Stud owner, Tom Sanson, sold 16 of 28 bulls for an average of $6850. He believes the result is testament to his passionate commitment to continually improving his breeding programme.

Two bulls were purchased by other Simmental Studs – Lot 1: Gold Creek Gladiator sold to Opawa Downs for $18,000 – the highest equal price paid for a Simmental bull in New Zealand this season. Lot 2: Gold Creek G-Force sold to Potawa Simmentals for $16,000. Further to this, semen was purchased by Woonallee Simmentals in Australia.

Tom says it was pleasing to do repeat business from a number of loyal clients, as well as get new buyers on record.

“Overall I think we had a solid line-up of quality bulls this year, with results trending in the right direction.”
